, 1/4000 f/8.0, ISO 640, hand held. London, United Kingdom.

North east London - Four forms of transport, covering almost two centuries. This new road goes over the River Lee and its Canal, the cyclist you can see and to the right and ahead is the main electrified railway line up the north east coast of England, running from Liverpool Street station. I took my very old (1980's) 500mm Catadioptric lens (Mirror lens) with me, which is manual focus and is fixed aperture! but the extreme focal length on DX has created amazing foreshortening. Initially I thought the resulting image would be too soft but huge amounts of Unsharpen Mask and added contrast (and other editing) has polished it all up surprisingly well. #BlackAndWhite

I really like the effect - almost as if the cyclist is disappearing into a heat haze!

Thank you Ann - it was hot and the characteristic 'doughnut' shape out of focus highlights of the mirror lens has created quite an interesting background mush, all of the overhead electrification paraphanalia. It was a true challenge, from start to finish!

Thank you Claudio - the black white is harsher but the colour is easier to look at, so I liked both too, but if I had to choose one, it'd be the colour. Goodnight!
