Questa grande libellula vola prevalentemente in collina,fino ai 1400 mt.,frequenta zone con estesa copertura arbustiva, ama le acque correnti limpide di fiumi e piccoli torrenti,con preferenza di questi ultimi,il maschio vola a pochi centimetri dalla superfice dell'acqua(vedi foto n°3)in cerca di femmine e per il controllo del territorio,la femmina depone le uova immergendosi verticalmente nell'acqua,ad ogni immersione depone un uovo nei sedimenti del fondo vicino a riva, (vedi foto n°4 e 5),non viene mai accompagnata dal maschio,le larve si nascondono nei sedimenti sabbiosi nelle anse lasciando emergere solo la parte superiore del torace,testa e zampe anteriori,essendo così mimetizzata è praticamente invisibile,per cui al passaggio di una preda estende la maschera e la cattura,lo sviluppo dura diversi anni dal sito di Fabio Sacchi
