Presso Somma Lombardo (VA) il Ticino fa un'ansa controllata da due dighe (Dighe del Panperduto) che danno rigine al Canale Villoresi ed al Canale Industriale (chiamato anche Canale Vittorio Emanuele III°). Progettate dell'Ing. Emilio Villoresi, (insieme alla Diga della Miorina posta circa 8 km. più a monte, nei pressi di Sesto Calende (VA) che ha lo scopo di regolare il deflusso delle acque dal Lago Maggiore), l'insieme delle opere idrauliche fu realizzato tra il 1884 e il 1901, dopo la morte dell'Ing. Villoresi avvenuta nel 1879. Scatto effettuato il 26 Agosto 2016.
