Il rinoceronte indiano ( Rhinoceros unicornis ) è stato vicinissimo all' estinzione tanto che all' inizio del 900 ne rimanevano meno di 100 esemplari poi, con l' isitituzione di alcune riserve pianopano lapopolazione si è ripresa. Il bellissimo parco di Kaziranga in Assam rappresenta uno dei pià grandi successi della conservazione a livello mondiale tanto che dalle poche decine di esemplari ora si contano più di 2500 esemplari !! La prima volta che ci sono stato è stato davvero sorprendente constatare la presenza massiccia di questo animale dall' aspetto quasi preistorico che si vede con discreta facilità sia nelle escursioni a dorso di elefante che in auto.
