Surely the young swallow is inexperienced but the attempt to capture more flying insects is part of their behavior to consume less energy while hunting, for which the failed attempt is part of the learning phase.
Quite often I photographed swallows with swollen throat of their prey, of which you could see some evidence that handed him the bill.
