Il forte di Bard è un complesso fortificato fatto riedificare nel XIX secolo da Casa Savoia sulla rocca che sovrasta il borgo di Bard, in Valle d'Aosta.Dopo un lungo periodo di abbandono, il forte è stato totalmente restaurato con interventi ispirati al design e al recupero conservativo: è stato aperto ai visitatori nel gennaio 2006. Attualmente ospita esposizioni di arte antica, moderna, contemporanea e di fotografia. Il Forte è inoltre sede di tre percorsi permanenti: Il museo delle Alpi, Alpi dei ragazzi e Le prigioni, oltre a un quarto in corso di completamento (Il museo del Forte). Nel cortile interno principale si svolgono nel periodo estivo rappresentazioni musicali e teatrali. Oltre alle attività didattiche il Forte ospita dei propri format come per esempio I colloqui del Forte di Bard, Napoleonica, Meteolab, oltre a eventi sportivi come il MonterosaWalserUltraTrail e Forteight. Il Forte è attrezzato con caffetteria, ristorante, sale per eventi, sale congressi multimediali, bookshop, infolounge, wifi in molte aree; ospita anche un albergo. Nel marzo 2014 presso il forte di Bard sono state girate delle scene del film The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Dal punto di vista orografico, il forte si trova sulla sinistra della Dora Baltea, sulla cima di un promontorio roccioso, a 384 m s.l.m. La posizione del forte di Bard è strategica, in quanto in questo punto la valle della Dora Baltea si stringe fino a formare una gola che nei secoli ha marcato un confine culturale, politico e religioso della Valle d'Aosta. Ai piedi del promontorio, nella gola lungo la SS 26 in direzione di Donnas, si trova il geosito neolitico di Bard. La particolare posizione della rocca dov'è situato il forte, lungo il corso della Dora Baltea, permise in passato un agevole controllo del passaggio in entrambe le direttrici da e per la Francia. Documenti storici testimoniano la presenza di un presidio ostrogoto (Clausuræ augustanæ) nell'area già nel VI secolo, ovvero all'epoca di Teodorico: in particolare, di una guarnigione consistente di 60 uomini. Il forte viene spesso nominato nelle cronache altomedievali dei viaggiatori celebri, che percorsero la Valle d'Aosta e che restavano meravigliati dalla sua perfezione strategica: nel 1034 il forte venne definito inexpugnabile oppidum; all'epoca era sotto il dominio di Boso, visconte di Aosta, e i suoi successori ne restarono in possesso fino a metà del XIII secolo. Successivamente, fu occupato dalla potente signoria feudale dei Bard, conti locali probabilmente alle dipendenze del vescovado di Aosta. Ugo fu l'ultimo discendente della famiglia dei Bard a presidiare il castello: intorno alla metà del Duecento Amedeo IV di Savoia volle avere personalmente il controllo del forte, impossessandosene e piazzandovi un'imponente guarnigione. Il Castello da qui in poi sarà a lungo sotto il dominio dei Savoia.
