La chiesa di S. Nicolò fu eretta sul porto nel sec. XII dedicata a S. Nicolò da Bari, venerato nel Medioevo come protettore delle scuole e dei naviganti. Ampliata nel sec. XVI, fu nel tempo, magazzino, caserma, abitazione, teatro e cinematografo. All'inizio degli anni '50 il Comune ne decretò la riapertura al culto con i lavori di restauro che riportarono alla luce frammenti degli affreschi trecenteschi. Riaperta definitivamente nel 1953, anche come Sacrario dei Caduti in guerra, reca sull'esterno della parete settentrionale l'affresco trecentesco della Madonna in trono con il Bambino. Durante la stagione turistica estiva è oggi riservata al culto evangelico.
