Il Vino Nobile di Montepulciano è uno dei più antichi e pregiati vini della Toscana, prodotto con le uve di un particolare clone di Sangiovese che a Montepulciano prende il nome di Prugnolo Gentile, per via dello spiccato profumo di prugna che concede al vino. Come tutti i grandi vini (rossi) toscani deriva dal legame che si è creato nei secoli tra Sangiovese e terroir: i produttori non sono moltissimi e la zona di produzione originale non è stata ampliata a dismisura, pur godendo di un buon prestigio fin dal Rinascimento. Il suo segreto è il suolo: un'alternanza di sabbie e argille che mescolandosi creano condizioni ideali per produrre vini di struttura, profumati, ma con tannini fini. Il Vino Nobile di Montepulciano è un vino DOCG, un vino a denominazione di origine controllata, il massimo riconoscimento nel mondo del vino italiano.L'affinamento in legno, d'obbligo secondo il disciplinare di produzione, è lungo 26 mesi per il base e 38 per il Nobile Riserva ma necessario per dare tempo a questo vino dalla grande carica polifenolica, di arrotondarsi e sprigionare profumi eterei.
