Not the traditional wings straight on view but under the circumstances and still it shows its impressive size and the focus is spot on its heady bits (that's the technical term!). Looking at the data, the light was quite plentiful, which is not always the case with such places. |

Thanks, Tim! I have others in that more traditional position but preferred this one for being a little different. It's said to be the biggest such park in Europe, so there was plenty of space for the butterflies to fly and to let light in, although it was very varied according to where the butterflies landed - some of the greenery was very dark and shady - although this one eventually settled on a large well-lit leaf! This particular species didn't seem to settle very often at all, which is partly why I ended I spending two and a half hours in 80% humidity!
I also brought my laptop with Lightroom to Spain with me this time, so I can easily inject a little extra light where necessary..... |

Mine, too, in hindsight but I had no idea I would end up in a butterfly park! I wouldn't carry a macro lens around here without a specific purpose in mind - too hot and heavy to carry camera equipment in a backpack in these temperatures. And I feel vulnerable enough carrying the stuff I do - it does get noticed as few people have anything other than a phone or a point and shoot! The macro lens will be coming next time as I paid for an annual pass to the butterflies. Probably the laptop, too. Pretty much fills my cabin luggage! :)) |
