Dall'ultimo viaggio GrandiViaggiFotografici a Yellowstone. Parto col ringraziare tutti i miei compagni di viaggio. Oramai anno dopo anno torno in questo parco, ed ogni volta sono emozioni ed avventure nuove. Quest'anno in particolare lo ricorderò per un incontro senza dubbio affascinante. Troppe volte ci lasciamo “prendere” dalla foga di ricercare la foto perfetta senza concentrarci per niente su ciò che sta accadendo ai nostri occhi. E' andata così anche questa volta, ovviamente! Ma ho anche qualche video, così da potermi rivedere la scena. Era uno degli ultimi giorni vicino alla Lamar Valley, se volevamo avere qualche chance di vedere un solo lupo, dovevamo partire ben prima dell'alba. La sveglia alle 4 fa storcere un po' il naso ai miei compagni, ma tant'è. Ci fermiamo osservando a distanza siderale, alcuni lupi che escono da una tana, ma sono davvero troppo lontani. Proseguiamo verso la Lamar e mi fermo per dare uno sguardo con il binocolo. Appena esco, in lontananza gli ululati, inconfondibili, di un branco di lupi. Non sono affatto lontani. A chilometri di distanza, dalla parte opposta della Lamar, una risposta di un altro branco. Ecco di nuovo gli ululati. Brividi su tutto il corpo. Sembrano vicinissimi, sempre più potenti, dietro un piccolo boschetto di betulle. Facciamo altri 200metri per riuscire ad avere un'altra prospettiva ma niente. Non si vedono e non si sentono più. L'occasione sembra persa ormai. C'è un coyote che passeggia nervosamente davanti ad una tana, probabilmente la propria. Mi guardo attorno ma vedo solamente 4 bisonti adulti, improvvisamente nervosi anche loro. Guardano alla loro sinistra. Volto lo sguardo ed eccolo, un bellissimo esemplare di lupo, solitario, nero, che si avvicina pian piano con il suo caratteristico caracollare. Passa vicino ai bisonti che lo guardano facendo scudo con i loro corpi ai due nuovi nati e ben visibili dal loro manto arancio. Un altro bisonte solitario se la da a gambe levate, ma il lupo non ha lui come obiettivo. Si avvicina alla tana del coyote che inizia a ululare. In pochi secondi il lupo è accerchiato da 3 coyotes, che girano attorno, ululano, ringhiano, si avvicinano pericolosamente e cercano di scacciarlo. Il lupo è intimorito. Nonostante sia perlomeno il doppio come mole, la coda rintanata tra le gambe, non mente. Avanza digrignando i denti e mostrandoli di quando in quando ai suoi avversari. Lo seguo obiettivo in mano per diverse centinaie di metri. Lui torna sui suoi passi ed i coyotes diventano 4. Ci sono alcune schermaglie prima che il lupo prenda la saggia decisione di allontanarsi, attraversando la strada e dirigendosi verso l'ampia vallata della Lamar Valley. Passa discretamente vicino al nostro gruppo, circa 30/35 metri di distanza, poi si allontana e ci lascia con il cuore in gola e l'emozione di aver vissuto questa bella scena. Il tutto è durato 20 minuti esatti. Sono sembrati un'eternità. Negli anni ho avuto la fortuna di osservare e fotografare questi magnifici animali diverse volte, ma ogni volta che si vede un lupo, è sempre eccitante in maniera indescrivibile. Tornerò ancora a Settembre e poi in inverno prima di ritornare a Maggio 2017. Spero di aver ancora qualcosa da raccontare…. Condizioni di scatto non semplicissime. Luce poi, non molta.
