La Certosa di Milano é stata fondata nel 1349 a Garegnano, 4 chilometri fuori dalle mura della città, da Giovanni Visconti, Signore e Arcivescovo di Milano. Egli, a causa dei moltepilici impegni che gli competevano per il suo ruolo di Signore della città , aveva poco tempo da dedicarsi alle pratiche religiose e così decise di fondare questa abbazia in un luogo appartato e tranquillo in campagna affinchè i frati potessero pregare in sua vece...... La chiesa venne consacrata nel 1367 ed é completamente decorata con un ciclo pittorico sulla vita ed opere di San Bruno, di Simone Peterzano (che fu maestro di Caravaggio) e di Daniele Crespi. Oggi la Certosa si trova in Via Garegnano ed é inglobata nel tessuto urbano di Milano. Per la bellezza dei suoi affreschi é anche chiamata "La Cappella Sistina di Milano"
