Il cerastio è una piccola perenne tappezzante, di origine europea che produce piccoli cespi tondeggianti, molto densi e ben ramificati, costituita da sottili fusti che portano piccole foglie di colore verde chiaro, ricoperte da una sottile peluria bianca, che le rende grigio-argento. Dalla primavera inoltrata fino all'estate all'apice dei fusti sbocciano innumerevoli piccoli fiori di colore bianco, la fioritura è tanto abbondante che questa pianta in inglese viene chiamata "Snow in summer" neve in estate.
