Compie una generazione all'anno trascorrendo l'inverno allo stato di uovo. Gli adulti sfarfallano a novembre e le femmine, camminando, risalgono il tronco per raggiungere la chioma dove depositano le uova, a gruppetti, sulle gemme o in loro prossimità. In aprile cominciano a schiudere le larve che riducono le foglie alle sole nervature principali. A cominciare dalla metà di giugno queste sono mature e per mezzo di un filo sericeo si portano al suolo, entro cui si incrisalidano all'interno di un lasso bozzolo di seta. A fine autunno inizio inverno sfarfallano gli adulti.
