Montagna altissima e visibilissima, essa, la MADRE DELLE NEBBIE, fa parte dell'immaginario di ogni persona, viandante o abitante, che ha messo l'occhio e il piede nella Valle Hunza [Nord Pakistan]. Diversamente dal K2 e da altre montagne del Karakoram, la possente mole del DUMANI è stata compagna di tutte le genti che hanno vissuto o transitato lungo uno dei nodi cruciali delle antiche carovaniere che collegano Occidente a Oriente, varianti della celebre Via della Seta. La valle sopra cui il RAKAPOSHI domina è armoniosa e possente, per ricchezza culturale e ambientale. Sede degli antichi regni di Hunza e Nagar, la sua PARETE LUCENTE fa da insuperabile contrafforte alla più grande opera stradale costruita dall'uomo: la Karakorum Highway. Ma il RAKAPOSHI stesso è tra le opere più grandi che la natura abbia generato. Montagna larghissima, quasi 20 km da est a ovest, è l'unica cima della Terra che cade direttamente, senza soluzione di continuità, senza valli o balze intermedie, per quasi 6000 m dalla cima alla base.
