Ho tribolato un bel po' per fotografare il Battistero e questo affresco perché, il monumento ha pochissimo spazio davanti (c'è la torre campanaria della basilica a circa 15 metri dal portone d'ingresso e, la piazzetta adiacente, pur essendo in zona pedonale, è praticamente un parcheggio (Grrr ...!) ). Quel che mi piacerebbe sapere è perché quell'affresco è lì e sembra o sopra una porta murata o quel che resta di un'edicola votiva; non ho trovato nessuna notizia. Ma quel che è curioso è che, negli ultimi scavi effettuati, mi pare nel 1992, hanno scoperto che sotto la piazzetta c'è un cimitero dove sono inumate delle bare lignee e, siccome siamo in centro Varese, che più centro non si può, un luogo archeologico, evidentemente, dava fastidio a qualcuno (banche, esercizi commerciali,...), hanno pensato bene di ricoprire il tutto e di lasciarli ... riposare in pace ! Credo che le anime dei defunti che giacciono lì, piuttosto che stare in mezzo al casino, ringrazino colui che ha preso l'improvvida ma, per loro, efficace decisione !
