La Salamandrina dagli occhiali è un anfibio endemico italiano (unico genere di vertebrato endemico italiano), distribuito lungo tutto l'Appennino, ultimamente diviso in due specie Salamandrina perspicillata e Salamandrina terdigitata. Sono morfologicamente molto simili tra loro, le differenze riscontrate sono nel dna, condividono solamente una ristretta fascia geografica intorno al fiume Volturno, a nord è presente la perspicillata (quella della foto, fatta sui Monti Lepini) e a sud la terdigitata. Hanno abitudini notturne, il periodo migliore per osservarle è in primavera, quando le femmine vanno nelle pozze d'acqua o nei fontanili a deporre le uova.
