In questo immenso ghiacciaio (il più grande di tutta Italia (16kmq)) il Papa vi trascorse le vacanze nel 1984 e nel 1988 sciando e pregando in questi luoghi teatro della Grande Guerra Bianca del 15-18... In suo onore la cima rappresentata (chiamata Cresta Croce) è stata rinominata in Cima Giovanni Paolo II.
