Questo enorme pollo sultano espanso, inatto al volo, è il takahe. Scoperto dai primi coloni perchè ucciso per essere mangiato, se ne conoscevano solo 4 esemplari catturati per scopo alimentare, a distanza di 20-30 anni l'uno dall'altro. Ritenuto estinto, dopo lunghe ricerche ne è stata riscoperta una piccola popolazione nel 1948 nelle vallate interne dell'isola meridionale; al momento ne sopravvivono solo 275 esemplari, alcuni ospitati presso santuari e piccole isole che sono state liberate dai predatori terrestri. A me sono sembrati veramente un relitto della preistoria, con questo enorme becco e i loro movimenti lenti .- Takahe, South island, Zealandia Sanctuary, Nuova Zelanda - DA VEDERE IN HD
