Questa è la sala del consiglio dell' Opera (Pia) Barolo e questo scatto non è altro che un riconoscimento a due persone che purtroppo ai tempi nostri scarseggiano assai: un mirabile esempio di fede, amore coniugale e operosità sociale. I Marchesi di Barolo sono stati una coppia fuori dall'ordinario: colta, cosmopolita, poliglotta, con una rete internazionale di rapporti. Si incontrarono alla corte di Napoleone. Erano illuministi, appassionati di cultura, pedagogia, economia, arte e politica, ma nel contempo erano profondamente religiosi. Appassionati di umanità: ciò che stava loro a cuore era la promozione dello sviluppo umano. Hanno espresso il loro carisma rispondendo ai bisogni sociali emergenti attraverso strategie di intervento integrato, ben oltre la beneficienza, realizzando a Torino e in Piemonte interventi pedagogici, sociali e politici, condividendo il loro patrimonio con i più poveri. Svilupparono pensiero e dialogo con i più importanti pensatori dell'epoca, diventando promotori di una nuova visione della società e di una politica innovativa. Perseguirono questo obiettivo per tutta la loro vita, ponendo le condizioni affinché il loro disegno potesse proseguire nel futuro. Non ebbero figli, ma la loro capacità di generare è dimostrata dal patrimonio, culturale ed economico, ancora oggi risorsa per la Città di Torino. Opera Barolo: Assistenza, educazione e cultura in un' Opera unica. Fondata nel 1864 da Giulia Colbert Falletti di Barolo (1785-1864), l'Opera Barolo è lo strumento operativo che prosegue l'azione solidale e l'impegno sociale, politico e culturale portato avanti con il marito Carlo Tancredi (1782-1838). L'azione dell'Opera si concretizza in una serie di progetti di sostegno a situazioni di necessità, con l'obiettivo nello stesso tempo di superare il bisogno immediato, per dotare le persone di strumenti che ne valorizzino la dignità. L'intuizione centrale, modernissima, dei Marchesi di Barolo è stata creare un legame tra assistenza, educazione e cultura. Il Consiglio dell'Opera Barolo. La stessa Giulia di Barolo ha strutturato il proprio Ente, istituito con testamento.L'Opera Barolo ha una governance basata sulla sinergia tra mondo civile e mondo ecclesiale: la Presidenza, triennale, è affidata in alternanza all'Arcivescovo e al Presidente della Corte d'Appello di Torino. Dei sei consiglieri, due sono di nomina del Presidente entrante e quattro del Presidente uscente. Il più anziano di nomina dei Consiglieri ricopre la carica di Vicepresidente. I consiglieri prestano la loro attività a titolo gratuito, mettendo a disposizione le proprie competenze professionali, nella consapevolezza che la chiamata nel solco dei Marchesi è da 150 anni un'occasione privilegiata per dedicarsi al bene comune.
