APPOGGIO DI FORTUNA. In loco è conosciuta anche col nome di chiesa San Pietro dei Pescatori, denominazione che trae origine dalle decime che i pescatori dovevano pagare nei giorni di festa per la costruzione della chiesa nel XIII secolo, divenne cattedrale con bolla pontificia di Gregorio XIII nel 1572. L'aspetto dell'edificio lascia trasparire la sovrapposizione barocca degli interni e della facciata sulle strutture romanica preesistenti. L'interno si sviluppa in tre navate abbellite da stucchi dorati e illuminati dalle vetrate policrome ispirate da temi religiosi. La volta centrale è dominata dal moderno affresco di Giovanni Rovero (1885-1971), mentre nel presbiterio gli affreschi del XIX secolo sono opera del pittore Lazzaro De Maestri. L'altare maggiore 1679 in marmo policromo intarsiato è opera di Anselmo Quadro. La mensa è stata ricavata da un sarcofago del IV secolo di provenienza africana, rimaneggiato nel XV secolo attribuito a Vincenzo Foppa proveniente dalla chiesa del vescovado. Nella navata di destra si trova un gruppo ligneo settecentesco raffigurante l'annunciazione opera di Giovanni Battista Maragliano. Proseguendo verso il presbiterio si incontra sulla sinistra il pulpito in marmo intarsiato del 1679 opera di Anselmo Quadro, a destra trova collocazione l'altare seicentesco di Sant'Eugenio, in cui sono collocate le reliquie del Santo. Del tesoro della cattedrale fanno parte un reliquiario di Sant'Eugenio datato del 1430, una croce processuale in argento del 1417, il palio di Sant'Eugenio del XV secolo. Tratto da Wikipedia. L'appoggio di fortuna é stato all'altezza del suo compito visto l'alta qualità di questa foto: ottima nitidezza e gestione delle luci. Peccato solo quella panca in primo piano forse un pò troppo invasiva. ;-):-P
