La Quinta da Regaleira è una tenuta con palazzo, giardini e grotte, situata nel centro storico della città portoghese di Sintra. Il cosiddetto "Pozzo Iniziatico" (Poço Iniciático) è costituito da una scala a spirale di nove piani, dalla quale si scende fino a 30 metri di profondità. Il luogo si ispira ai gironi della "Divina Commedia". In fondo al pozzo, è scolpita la croce dei Templari. Al centro e in fondo al pozzo partono due gallerie scavate nella roccia molto caratteristiche che sbucano in altre zone della villa, in alto e chiuso da un enorme porta girevole di pietra ancora funzionante che lo nasconde dalla vista. E presente un altro pozzo minore alto 10 metri chiamo pozzo incompleto che si collega con una galleria.

bellissimo... mi ricorda un po il Pozzo di S. Patrizio di Orvieto, solo che li, l'accesso, capolavoro di ingegneria, è garantito da due rampe elicoidali a senso unico, completamente autonome e servite da due diverse porte, che consentivano di trasportare con i muli l'acqua estratta, senza ostacolarsi e senza dover ricorrere all'unica via che saliva al paese dal fondovalle.
