Benché la leggenda faccia risalire a Carlo Magno la sua fondazione , il primo documento in cui è menzionata l'Ecclesia di Santa Maria di Vezzolano risale al 1095: si tratta dell'investitura di Teodulo ed Egidio ad officiales, con l'impegno di attenersi ad alcuni precetti condivisi e di vivere secondo la regola canonica, probabilmente quella di sant'Agostino, attestata in seguito in Vezzolano da bolle papali del 1176 e del 1182. Posta tra le diocesi di Vercelli, Asti, Torino ed Ivrea, vicina ai potenti comuni di Asti e Chieri, la Canonica di Vezzolano testimonia con le sue importanti opere d'arte medioevale un lungo periodo di splendore tra i secoli XII e XIII, seguito da un lento declino, che può essere simbolicamente racchiuso in due date: il 1405, anno in cui la canonica fu concessa in commenda ad abati residenti altrove, e il 1800, quando l'amministrazione napoleonica ne espropriò i beni, trasformando la chiesa in cappella campestre della parrocchia di Albugnano e in granaio il chiostro affrescato. Nel 1937 il complesso fu ceduto allo Stato e in consegna alla Soprintendenza per i Beni Architettonici.

ho intenzione di andare a fare una foto in notturna, di preciso ho in mente una lunga esposizione con il fisheye (o con il 16mm, 24 eq su aps-c) per provare a fare il mio primo scatto "astrografico" e se dio vuole pure con la via lattea, visto il basso inquinamento luminoso della zona
