IL barco ducale è situato a nord-ovest della Città, a 1 km dal centro in direzione Sant'Angelo in Vado. Fondato nel 1465 per volere di Federico da Montefeltro, era uno dei luoghi preferiti di Francesco Maria II Della Rovere ed era spesso definito "viridario".Questo era un parco venatorio ed offriva al Duca una possibilità di ristoro spirituale oltre che di svago fisico. Il sito è collegato al Palazzo Ducale da un miglio di fiume che cavalieri e dame risalivano in barca. All'interno vi si trovava un piccolo convento trecentesco di frati francescani minori, detti Zoccolanti, costruito a ridosso del fiume Metauro. Venne ampliato successivamente (1594 - 96) per volere dell'ultimo duca, Francesco Maria II Della Rovere che, a volte vi si fermava a desinare o a dormire ? forse è per questo che, erroneamente, si identifica il Barco con la residenza estiva ducale.
