Lycaena alciphron, è un Licenide di dimensioni medio grandi per il genere, dotato di spiccato dimorfismo sessuale. I maschi ( come quello della foto) presentano delle iridescenze violette, molto accentuate , soprattutto nella forma tipica che vola nel nord Europa, mentre appaiono più ridotte nella nostra forma "Gordius". Di solito è una specie che vive sopra i 1000 metri di quota, ma alcune, rare, popolazioni volano anche a quote collinari, come questo esemplare sorpreso a "soli" 200 metri in una radura umida, il 18 Maggio scorso verso mezzogiorno
