Se tra le Farfalle si volesse scegliere una specie, da eleggere a "regina delle montagne" il titolo spetterebbe per diritto al Parnassius apollo. Distribuito su tutto l'arco alpino, e sull'Appennino centro settentrionale, fino all'Abruzzo, ricompare poi in Aspromonte , in Calabria, e in Sicilia sulle Madonie. In Umbria è comune sulle cime dei Sibillini, e su altre montagne ai confini con il Lazio. Sono sentimentalmente legato a queste immagini, tra le prime che ho scattate a questa specie, con una vecchia Nikon Coolpix S210 nell'Agosto del 2010
