Ischnura elegans (Vander Linden, 1820) Dimensioni: lunghezza: 30-35 mm, apertura alare 30-45 mm. Descrizione della specie: E' una delle libellule più diffuse in Italia e la più grande del suo genere (30-34mm) con dorso dell'addome interamente nero tranne l'ottavo segmento chiaro. I maschi immaturi sono verdi mentre gli adulti presentano porzione centrale dell'addome bronzo-marrone, testa, torace ed estremità addominale celesti. I maschi hanno il torace azzurro con una banda nera e l'addome dorsalmente nero tranne l'8° segmento addominale, si distinguono anche per i cerci divergenti ed il pronoto con esteso lobo mediano. La femmina si presenta con tre forme cromatiche: una simile al maschio (androcroma) e due (ginocrome) con torace rosato da giovani che vira a bruno chiaro grigiastro alla maturità, con (forma infuscans) o senza (forma infuscans-obsoleta) una linea nera mesotoracica. Una colorazione violacea compare transitoriamente in alcune femmine. Le femmine adulte possono avere la stessa colorazione del maschio (femmine andromorfe) ma, generalmente, sono verdi-brunastre con forme giovanili aventi torace rosa-lilla. Gli occhi sono scuri superiormente, il pterostigma, dell'ala anteriore, è bicolore (bianco-nero). Distribuzione e habitat: molto comune in tutta l'Italia continentale. La si può osservare nei pressi di qualsiasi ambiente acquatico. Tollera anche acque salate ma non acide.
