È il luogo di soggiorno dei soldati di guardia. L'ambiente, copiato dal castello di Verres, è un lungo stanzone coperto da una volta a botte, dal pavimento in battuto, riscaldato da due grandi camini alle estremità. I giacigli dei soldati, semplici assiti con paglia e coperte rustiche, sono su un lato, sull'altro tavoloni e rozze panche dove gli armati mangiano, giocano, puliscono le armi. Le armature, gli elmi, i tamburi e le varie armi, dalle spade, ai falcioni, alle balestre, sono appoggiati a rastrelliere di legno. I soldati di guardia al castello hanno giacigli spartani: sono assiti sollevati su cavalletti, con assi di sponda per trattenere la paglia che funge da imbottitura e riscalda. Gli uomini dormono affiancati, in tre, quattro per letto. Per ripararsi dal freddo hanno coperte in lana grezza o a righe colorate.
