L'ingresso ufficiale al villaggio avviene attraverso la torre-porta in muratura di pietrame presa a prestito nella sua struttura generale dal ricetto canavesano di Oglianico. Il ricetto è una sorta di villaggio fortificato a protezione della popolazione civile cresciuto in rapporto dinamico con il castello signorile. I ricetti erano assai diffusi nel Piemonte tre-quattrocentesco particolarmente nell'area nord-occidentale dove se ne conservano ancora oggi in numero consistente. Nel progetto della commissione premeva sottolineare l'accesso canonico al centro abitato attraverso il ponte, la porta (e la postierla minore) e il più generale sistema di protezione garantita da elementi canonici: il fossato, il ponte levatoio issabile attraverso argano e bolzoni, la grata di chiusura, il prolungamento in altezza della torretta per l' avvistamento (belfredo). Assai sbilanciata (per eccesso) è invece la decorazione pittorica della parte inferiore con una quantità di spunti presi a prestito da edifici più pretenziosi, quali la Porta soprana di Genova o il castello di Malgrà presso Rivarolo (da qui derivano le pitture religiose e lo stemma dei San Martino). Non poteva mancare la presenza dell'uomo selvatico (homo salvaticus) inserito qui a protezione dell'abitato ma anche allusivo della condizione umana rustica e primitiva e come tale da dismettere a contatto della civiltà urbana.
