Ponte Vecchio è uno dei simboli più conosciuti di Firenze, nonchè uno dei ponti più conosciuti al mondo. Nel corso dei secoli è stato più volte ricostruito, le botteghe che lo caratterizzano fino al 1593 erano occupate da macellai, in seguito vennero sostituite da orafi e gioiellieri su ordine di Ferdinando I de' Medici, Granduca di Toscana, che mal gradiva gli odori sgradevoli al di sotto del corridoio sospeso. Il corridoio sospeso era stato costruito in soli 5 mesi nel 1565, con lo scopo di mettere in comunicazione il centro politico e amministrativo a Palazzo Vecchio con la dimora privata dei Medici, Palazzo Pitti, passando al di sopra delle botteghe del ponte.
