La chiesa di San Tommaso apostolo venne eretta probabilmente nell'XI secolo e risulta quindi uno degli edifici più antichi della città.Ricostruita a partire dal 1584, venne consacrata l'8 maggio 1621. La chiesa, alla fine dell'Ottocento, rischiò di essere completamente distrutta, in quanto si trovava al centro del tracciato della nuova strada di Via Pietro Micca. L'architetto torinese Carlo Ceppi, progettettista della nuova strada, per salvarla, nel 1895, demolì la navata e costruì il nuovo avancorpo.Dell'antica chiesa, dopo la ricostruzione, rimangono l'abside, il transetto, il campanile e l'altare.
