La costruzione della Chiesa di San Domenico iniziò nel 1227 quando i domenicani si insediano a Torino stabilendosi in prossimità delle mura cittadine, accanto all'antica Porta Palatina. e proseguì nel Trecento con forme lombardesche ogivali, secondo un impianto a quattro navate ad archi e volte; comprendeva un annesso cimitero sull'attuale area di Via Milano, dove aveva sede il Tribunale dell'Inquisizione. Alla fine del Cinquecento le navate vennero ridotte a tre, nel Sei e Settecento vennero sovrapposte decorazioni e sovrastrutture barocche che occultarono in larga misura gli elementi gotici, in parte ripristinati con gli interventi di Riccardo Brayda e Alfredo D'Andrade (1905-1911). Sulla semplice facciata di cotto a vista, spicca il timpano gotico inserito tra gli elementi verticali che denunciato l'attacco delle navate.
