LIPIZZA è un paese sloveno nel gruppo montuoso del Carso, compreso nel comune di Sesana, situato a pochi chilometri dal confine con l'Italia, nei pressi di Basovizza, frazione di Trieste. Il nome deriva dallo sloveno lipa (tiglio) con l'aggiunta di un suffisso diminutivo. La vegetazione del luogo è formata infatti da tigli e querce. Il luogo è noto per essere sede dell'allevamento equino che nel periodo asburgico ha dato origine ai cavalli lipizzani. L'allevamento, che è attivo ancor oggi, ha avuto inizio nel 1580, quando l'arciduca Carlo I[3] acquistò un grande latifondo dal vescovo di Trieste, proprio per iniziare l'allevamento.

Lipica is a village in the mountainous group of Slovenian Karst region, including in the town of Sesana, located a few kilometers from the border with Italy, near Basovizza, fraction of Trieste. The name comes from the Slovenian lipa (lime) with the addition of a diminutive suffix. The vegetation of the place is in fact formed by lime trees and oaks. The place is known for being home of horse breeding in the period that gave rise to the Habsburg Lipizzaners. The farm, which is still active today, began in 1580 when Archduke Charles I [3] bought a large landed estate of the bishop of Trieste, just to start breeding.
