Salisbury Cathedral, this morning. Out testing my new Lexar 64GB CF card in the old FX Nikon D700 before dawn, the weather forecast was not good, with just heavy cloud expected. The heavy winds ripped through the clouds, blew my Manfrotto BeFree tripod over and there was a brief Rembrandt/Turner sky. Here, the sunrise clouds get blown against a heavy bank of cloud, intensifying them and their colour - aided by 8 stop graduated grey filters over the top and left. It soon then clouded over completely and it has been dull and very grey all day since. |

Wonderful angle (not from the tripod blown over position, was it? :)) and what a glorious sky! I've no idea what the sunrise was like here - maybe I missed something equally spectacular! |

Ha! Ann, I like that one very much! It's not actually tilted either, it's the ultrawide angle (20mm in full frame is equivalent to 13mm in DX). And indeed, you could have missed all this whilst having your breakfast! |

Brief but lovely! Breakfast wasn't until nearly midday - I seem to remember I was commenting on your images around 5am this morning when I ought to have been sleeping like most people do at that time! |

This was halfway between the two - about 8.30. And it wasn't lovely, it was windy, not only did the little tripod blow over but I took a glove off to attach a lens and I had to chase that halfway across the Green! And the camera strap kept slapping against my face - which, whilst not being exactly painful, was both annoying and disconcerting! |

I actually love the wind, if I'm appropriately dressed - it gives me a real buzz. Not so good if you're trying to control your camera equipment though. |

Even you, appropriately dressed, John Gravett, or even Sir Ranulph Fiennes, would have found this just a tad testing, Ann... |

I have to admit, I don't like it quite so much if I daren't let go of the camera on the tripod for fear of it blowing over...... |

There comes a point when the novelty wears off. I literally couldn't let go of the tripod. Even if I wanted to get something from the bag. Which is why I handheld for these later shots. Which sounds rather ridiculous! |

The spire is like a sword/dagger angled defiantly at a furious sky, congrats Tim Brian |
