Colias crocea (Fourcroy, Geoffroy 1785) Dimensioni Lunghezza ala anteriore mm. 23-27 Apertura alare: 46 - 54 mm Descrizione della specie: Queste farfalle hanno come colore dominante il giallo, arricchito da sfumature aranciate, più tenue per la femmina, più intense per il maschio. Si osserva ancora, nel maschio, un bordo nero nella parte terminale delle ali anteriori che continua anche nelle posteriori. Nella femmina al posto di questo bordo nero vi è una serie di piccole macchie scure disposte in fila in maniera crescente dal basso verso l'alto. In entrambi gli esemplari presentano un margine intero e convesso con due venature anali nelle ali posteriori. Si può confondere con C. alfacariensis e C. hyale, che però hanno meno nero nel bordo esterno delle psap. La femmina può essere della forma helice Hubner, con colore giallastro chiaro sulle ps anziché arancio. La parte inferiore delle ali anteriori ha macchie postdiscali scure ed aree discali e basali giallastre, mentre, sempre inferiormente, le ali posteriori hanno colore di fondo giallo-citrino con una macchia discoidale bianca contornata di rossiccio ed una serie di punti scuri nella regione postdiscale. Possono dare origine a ibridi nei luoghi dove C. erate è presente. Dimorfismo sessuale: la parte superiore presenta l'apice nero delle ali anteriori delle femmine chiazzato di giallo, mentre nei maschi l'apice è nero uniforme. Le femmine nel 5% dei casi assumono una colorazione di fondo biancastra (forma ?helice', gene legato al sesso). Maschio: colore arancio con ampia fascia submarginale nera attraversata da esili strie nervulari gialle. Sfumatura basale nerastra e macchia nera disco cellulare nelle anteriori. Posteriori ampiamente velate di nerastro dal quale emerge una macchia disco cellulare arancio vivo. Femmina: simile al maschio ma presenti alcuni spazi gialli nella fascia submarginale. Velatura nerastra delle posteriori più estesa. Nelle femmine è frequente la forma "helice" a fondo bianco giallognolo. Stadi giovanili: le uova vengono deposte sulla parte superiore delle foglie della pianta nutrice. Il bruco è colore verde scuro con una fascia subdorsale e una laterale di colore giallo affiancate da grosse macchie nere.. Sverna allo stadio di bruco. In primavera avviene la metamorfosi in crisalide, appuntita all'estremità cefalica. Piante nutrici del bruco: Fabaceae (Coronilla spp., Lotus spp., Vicia spp., Trifolium spp., Medicago spp., Melilotus spp.). Distribuzione e habitat: paleartica: diffusa in Europa centro-meridionale, Nordafrica ed Asia minore, è una specie migrante. Specie non minacciata. specie euricora e migratrice, si rinviene in ambienti aperti dal piano basale a quello montano e cacuminale fino a oltre 2000 metri s.l.m. Periodo di attività: sfarfallamento: da maggio a ottobre con più generazioni annuali. Migrante.
