Ha un'anima ludica che piace molto ai più piccoli e una collezione davvero imponente che lo rende interessante per gli adulti. Insomma, il Museo Nazionale del Cinema è il posto giusto dove andare se siete in vacanza con la famiglia, e in ogni caso è una tappa obbligata (insieme al Museo Egizio) per chi si ferma qualche giorno in città. Il progetto di realizzare a Torino un museo italiano dedicato al cinema risale già agli anni Quaranta, e prende vita nella mente di Maria Adriana Prolo, storica e collezionista appassionata della settima arte (poi nominata direttrice a vita del Museo e scomparsa nel 1989) ed effettivamente vede la luce, nella sua prima sede di Palazzo Chiablese, nel settembre del 1958. Nel luglio 2000 fu invece trasferito là dove si trova oggi, all'interno della Mole Antonelliana. Non poteva esistere location migliore del monumento simbolo della città, costruito da Alessandro Antonelli nella seconda metà dell'Ottocento e nato per essere una sinagoga. Nel 1869, quando ormai la base dell'edificio era completata, la comunità ebraica torinese dovette interrompere i lavori a causa dei crescenti costi, e donare l'edificio alla città. Allora si completò la struttura, portandone la sommità fino a 167,5 metri d'altezza, un record per l'epoca. La Mole Antonelliana si è rivela particolarmente adatta a ospitare il Museo, pensato come un viaggio-percorso su più piani, che ripercorre la storia del cinema dalle sue origini, con una collezione di macchine ottiche precinematografiche e lanterne magiche, che i visitatori possono provare imparandone i meccanismi. C'è poi la sezione "la macchina del cinema", dedicata a spiegare le diverse componenti dell'industria cinematografica e le fasi di realizzazione di un film. Lungo il percorso potrete trovare preziosi cimeli (come i manoscritti di Federico Fellini per il suo Casanova) e una ricchissima collezione "ascendente" di manifesti. Resterete a bocca aperta quando metterete piede nell'Aula del Tempio, il "parterre" del museo, da cui parte la corsa dell'ascensore panoramico che, quando il tempo è sereno, permette di ammirare l'intera città dalla terrazza. Qui sono stati riprodotti i set di alcuni film che hanno fatto la storia del cinema: si può sedere sui WC di Bu?uel, o stendersi sul letto rosso della cappella "Amore e Morte". L'enorme idolo dorato che domina la sala è il Dio Moloch di Cabiria, il kolossal italiano ? primo nella storia ? diretto da Giovanni Pastrone (il titolo glielo dette Gabriele D'Annunzio). Ma l'accessorio più godibile di questa sala sono le chaise longue con cuffie incorporate, ideali per un momento di relax o per godersi i vecchi movie riprodotti sui maxischermi della sala. Uscendo, non dimenticate di prendere almeno un caffè al bar del Museo, lo scenografico (e come poteva essere altrimenti?) Cabiria Cafè, che propone anche un menu a tema cinematografico.
