Tra i passages in stile parigino che si trovano nella città di Torino, un posto di rilievo lo occupa sicuramente la splendida Galleria Umberto I che si trova nel centro della città. Il lotto tra Piazza della Repubblica, via Milano, via Basilica e via Egidi, già "Isolato Santa Croce", ospita per più di tre secoli la prima sede dell'Ospedale Mauriziano. Quando questo si trasferisce nell'attuale sede di corso Turati dopo il 1884, l'area viene trasformata, su progetto di Lorenzo Rivetti, con la realizzazione della galleria vetrata a forma di T che mette in comunicazione via Basilica e il mercato di Porta Palazzo e ospita negozi, caffè e una storica farmacia.
