A touch more depth of field, to cover the foreground would have helped, I think

Thanks, Tim. This was taken earlier this year and I was struggling between the difference in light in the different areas. I think I was probably still working almost fully in auto mode at that time. I'll aim to have another go when I go back to the ROH in the new year.

I did realise that and that you were probably not thinking of such things, still a nice image, hence my like

How did camera club go, Ann?

I have also written a reply regarding ND's on mine.

I really enjoyed the evening but didn't do as well as last time - he made only positive comments about both of mine but only gave them both 8s. Although I really liked his choice of overall winner, there were a couple of images I thought were amazing that he didn't seem to rate much at all! I actually like that I don't always agree with the judges - it means that I consider my own opinion to be valid, which I'm pretty sure would not have been the case a few years back!

I'll go have a read of your reply.....thanks.....

You probably will find that 8's will become the norm - and disagreeing with the judges as important as the interval cuppa - welcome to the life of camera club!

I've now re-seen this since my own visit and I posted my own image up, so it's now got extra resonance.

You will have seen for yourself the limitations of trying to photograph from such a position, especially given limited time and crowds of people to negotiate! You probably also now realise why I might occasionally go to the opera, even though opera isn't really my 'thing'!

I do and with all our combined collective comments, we'll call this one a draw, to be diplomatic - and to move on!
