I think you should title this with something, but it typifies and shows advanced autumn very well indeed, especially the wet and poor light. Lovely colour combination and feel of discarded chaos but the shape of the beautiful leaves show through.

Thank you for that lovely, considered comment, Tim! You are right - it did need a title and your description provided just the word I needed, so thank you again!

Fallen leaves are like snow, beautiful and wonderful at first and then become an ugly nuisance that can cause transport problems etc. Each leaf is unique, as each snow crystal is, but turn out to become a soggy sludgy mess in the end.

Very true! Thankfully these had not yet reached the less pleasant stage of their journey! It was fun shooting after dark (born of necessity) - not something I have much experience of (yet!)

I did think I'd caught my selection on the ground at their peak, one reason why I spent a few minutes getting a shot I was pleased with. It's downhill for them from now on!

Simple and essential to give the idea of ??autumn, I like!

Ann, it struck me that you could try a little exercise before LPH. Most think that a polariser can only be used in bright sunshine for getting blue skies darker. They can of course and they reduce light by two stops - you just won't get the full, or any effect. Now, I had taken shots of a river in bright sunlight and with the lowest iso on the camera, f22 minimum aperture and the polariser, I got down to about a second - enough to give some movement to the water. Now, in the dull light of our present November and even more so in Cumbria, I'm sure you could quite easily get even longer exposures. Water often looks better at a couple of seconds than it does at 20 or 30. Try this. Go down to your weir and have a go. Don't expect a masterpiece, just see what you can get. Don't forget to turn the lens' VR to OFF when on a tripod.

Thank you, Tim - that's really kind of you to give this further thought - I really appreciate it! That sounds like an idea worth trying, if at all possible before I go. I'm actually leaving here on Tuesday, so that I can spend time with family on the way, so my time is a little short but I'd like to give what you suggest a go, if there's a dry spell.
I didn't know that I would need to turn the VR off, so another piece of hepful info.
Time for sleep now - 'night!

You would have been aware of this VR function when you read the lens instruction manual. Good luck!

Looks like dull and then more dull but with rain for Thursday and it looks like it's Christchurch Priory for me this morning to get some more interiors. Only got photos inside once before. Also there's the Red House Museum that I've not been to before so that could be on the agenda. Church interiors can be real saviours on such dull days you know! Hope you find something rewarding too Ann.

Ha! Funnily enough, I already had the inside of the minster in mind for today as I'm going into Wimborne! Great minds, eh? Enjoy Christchurch!

It seems not to see clarity on the central leaf. I think it should be the point of focus for the viewer.

Thank you for your comment, Pig47. The overall sharpness is less than you might have wished due to the low light and very poor weather conditions. However, I did not feel that this detracted from the overall impression given of the jumbled leaves strewn across the wet pavement. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.

Good and fair reply to 47, Ann, if I might say so. It's sharp-ish and not a documentary study of leaves in the way that mine was.
