Dull dull and dull today, took my old full-frame D700 and ultrawide 14mm Sigma out to the Cathedral and found I could liven it up by hiding behind trees and was able to clothe the scaffolding by carefully placing of autumnal robes.

Hello friend night owl, the sky is a little 'anonymous but the rest I like a lot. Beautiful leafy setting. :-)

Thank you Stefano - they sky was pure white/grey - darkening it (this lens is too wide to attach filters onto) would have just made it more dull. But I am trying to show that you can try and compensate for such poor light as much as possible by including colour and other elements.

The cathedral is finely engraved in the sky and all around are the great colors of autumn. Beautiful composition.

Thank you again VIttorio - I must have looked quite odd peering through leaves and bushes!

Love the way you have framed this, Tim, with various densities of gold. Clever veiling of the sky, which would otherwise be overpowering. I think it would also work well cropped to a square.

Thank you Ann. I'm never really one for the square format and here I don't think it would have helped. The tallness of the frame emphasises the tallness of the spire. Note the new location!

I did note the location but wasn't 100% sure whether or not it was new! :)
I wasn't suggesting the square format as an improvement, simply an alternative that, for me, would work. I understood your reasons for presenting it in the way you have!

When you have about the widest non fisheye lens in existence you compose with it and its quirks, and not to go cropping it afterwards! (This is wider than 10mm on DX) You're wasting a lot of space. But I understand your point, too.
