Thank you Ann. Herons do roost in groups in trees (known as heronries - might be spelled differently) and I know of only two in my area. Many folk think that they sleep on the ground, as that is where they're most often seen, stooping around like old haggered detectives wearing ill-fitting overcoats...

Oh, I do see them in trees - nesting - but I don't think I've seen more than three of them at a time. When I was in Uganda, I saw a whole tree full of crested cranes (the national symbol) - very unusual and exciting!
