A pochi chilometri da Torino, nel territorio del piccolo comune di Almese, il fiume Messa ha scavato nella roccia diversi laghetti e goje (ovvero "pozze" in dialetto piemontese). Una di queste è la Goja del Pis, un piccolo laghetto, circondato da pareti rocciose in cui precipita una cascata (pis in dialetto). Il salto del Pis, circa 14 metri di altezza in una conca di circa 30 metri di diametro, deve le sue forme a centinaia di migliaia d'anni di erosione operata dalle acque su rocce particolarmente dure che, proprio per questo, hanno limitato l'azione delle acque stesse. Si tratta di serpentiniti, rocce ricche di ferro e magnesio, derivanti da magmi di antica crosta oceanica.
