Le storie, i personaggi, le leggende ed i misteri che aleggiano sul ponte della Maddalena e che accompagnano nel tempo e nei secoli questo mirabile gioiello di ingegneria medioevale, sono ormai ben noti agli amici del forum e non mi dilungo in descrizioni. Di certo però, sia la committente Contessa Matilde di Canossa, che fortemente lo volle a congiungere le due sponde del Serchio, sia il manutentore Castruccio Castracani che nei panni di signore di Lucca e della Garfagnana ne ordinò il restauro e l'abbellimento, poterono andar ben fieri delle loro maestranze e di quell'arcata che disegna la schiena dell'asino, così alta e sottile che sembra sfidare le leggi di gravità ...
