Claudio

Quoto Raffaella about the beauty of the picture of an animal that is very special ... a caterpillar! (Class Insecta) But belongs to the Subclass Myriapoda Class of Diplopoda. To better understand, it would be like comparing an ant to a spider, it is true that they are both arthropods, but actually belong to different Classes.

The specimen well photographed, I would say that is a Polydesmide, belonging to the family Paradoxosomatidae. Dragons in China are called centipede. Instead about the fact that you look like a "alien" I say only that the first fossil remains attributable to a human ancestor found in Ethiopia, and are dated to about 4 million years ago. Arthropods have more than 200 million years, so perhaps we are the aliens!

They are animals whose majority of species, living nand South East Asia, normally feed on sap or plant debris,
only a small portion are predators. They love to live in damp places (even caves) because their body / metabolism has difficulty retaining body fluids.

With the hope that I have not dwelt too much.

Greetings :-)
Claudio
