Confermo, anche se il mio viaggio risale al capodanno 1990, durante la tregua mai ufficializzata della guerra con l'Iran.
Su alcuni tetti vedevo chiaramente postazioni di mitragliatrici.
Fu un viaggio storico, perché da lì a pochi mesi Saddam Hussein invase il Kuwait ed iniziò la guerra del Golfo, con conseguente distruzione di alcune infrastrutture, come ponti a Baghdad, strade ed altro.
A seguire guerra civile e saccheggio di luoghi anche culturali, primo fra tutti il museo archeologico, da dove sparirono quasi tutti i pezzi importanti. Conservo gelosamente una copia del catalogo in inglese, che comprai al museo quando ancora integro.
