Un viaggio che richiede talmente tante ore di volo che necessita di più tempo possibile, per rimediare ai 3/4 giorni di fatto occupati dai trasferimenti.
Nel maggio 1999 (autunno australe) dopo una notte di spezzavolo nella capitale cilena Santiago, dove peraltro ho fatto la pessima esperienza di un'aggressione in pieno pomeriggio nell'affollata area del mercato, con tentativo di un giovane di strapparmi dal collo la reflex, io e la mia compagna ci dirigemmo direttamente sull'isola di Pasqua, affrontando altre 5 o 6 ore di volo per arrivarci.
Poi 4 notti ed altrettanti giorni veramente intensi e mai noiosi in lungo ed in largo su quella specie di spillo in mezzo ad una profonda vasca da bagno, come si può definire analogicamente quella sperduta emersione in mezzo a tanto mare, così distante dalla prima terraferma in qualsiasi direzione.
A seguire ci dirigemmo a nord, prima verso le zone del deserto di Atacama e le grandi alture vulcaniche popolate da fenicotteri rosa ed altri vari uccelli, oltre che da lama, alpaca, vigogne, vizcacha ed altri strani conigli, poi le cittadine rivierasche coi tanti petroglifi, in un certo qual modo simili alle celebri Linee di Nazca che si trovano poco più a nord in territorio peruviano, ma certamente meno note o pubblicizzate.
Poi il ritorno a Santiago ed il lungo ritorno con tappa rifornimento carburante prima della trasvolata oceanica in un aeroporto brasiliano.
Se non erro furono circa 20 giorni; luoghi e sensazioni indimenticabili :-P
