VILLA DELLA TORRE: La costruzione, terminata in tutte le sue parti intorno al 1560, si deve soprattutto alla volontà e all'intuizione di Giulio della Torre, un intellettuale di grande cultura, umanista capace di importanti relazioni sociali, politiche e religiose. Circa la paternità architettonica della Villa, che gli abitanti di Fumane chiamano ancora oggi "el palasso" (il palazzo), le ipotesi formulate sono diverse: sicuramente fra gli ispiratori e le scuole che contribuirono a definirne il progetto, si possono ricordare i grandissimi Giulio Romano, autore del gonzaghesco Palazzo Te a Mantova, Michele Sanmicheli, Bartolomeo Ridolfi e lo stesso Giulio Della Torre. La sua versatilita' artistica, il gusto ed il rigore stilistico che gli appartenevano, erano infatti conosciuti ed apprezzati nell'ambiente colto dell'epoca. L'originalità del prezioso edificio sta interamente nella sua concezione: non solo una dimora di campagna costruita a fini utilitaristici e legata alle attività agricole del podere, ma luogo pensato per la pace del corpo e dell'anima secondo i canoni fissati dagli scrittori della latinità, tanto amati dalla tradizione umanistica italiana. In realtà, se i testi maggiormente considerati dai curatori artistici della Villa, sembrano essere quelli di Vitruvio e Plinio il Giovane, recenti interpretazioni storiografiche attribuiscono un ruolo anche ai passi biblici, laddove si individua un percorso costruttivo dal basso (gli Inferi) verso l'alto (il Paradiso). Un mix di laicità e senso del sacro in piena coerenza con il profilo della Famiglia Della Torre, convinti umanisti appunto, ma anche in forte legame con la Chiesa, quando non essi stessi influenti prelati, assai in vista nella curia veronese.
