Una delle opere più pregiate della cattedrale è il sepolcro di don Alonso de Madrigal, "el Tostado". In stile rinascimentale , fu realizzato da Vasco de la Zarza in alabastro. El Tostado, nato a Madrigal de las Altas Torres, fu un famoso vescovo di Avila del XV secolo, di riconosciuta saggezza e virtù. Di lui si racconta che scrisse molto durante tutta la sua vita e per questo motivo nella sua tomba lo si raffigura mentre scrive, un po' stanco e quasi cieco. La casula vescovile che lo copre è riccamente lavorata nei lembi e pieghe. Dietro il vescovo un medaglione che rappresenta "L'Adorazione dei Magi" e un po' più in alto, vicino al soffitto "La nascita di Cristo". Il tutto è incorniciato da due colonne con bellissimi rilievi e nella base del sepolcro, oltre alle figure di Adamo ed Eva, vi sono cinque figure morali. Sotto il sepolcro una preziosa lastra in bronzo, appartenente all'antica tomba del Tostado, porta incisa la figura del vescovo
