Era considerato luogo dove per via ignota si mettevano in comunicazione vivi con i morti. Per questo,nel 13 sec.,era popolato di stregoni e cartomanti.... Ma la cosa veramente importante è il Chirocefalo del Marchesoni,dal nome dello scienziato che lo scoprì nel 1954.Si tratta di un gamberetto endemico e unico per il tipo di lago che è Pilato,glaciale,lungo 12 mm. caratteristica,nuota all'indietro. Il lago di Pilato merita una visita,ma attenzione!Il sentiero che dal rifugio Zilioli a 2200 m scende ai 1941 del lago,presenta tratti esposti privi di segnaletica e sdrucciolevoli,un discreto allenamento giova. #parco dei monti sibillini
