The focus works well on this and the colour is good too. Any news on you getting a proper macro? You've obviously got the eye to go in closer.

Macro's do tend to get used more in Spring and summer, so you'll be ready for that next year. I know that you're after a specific model but an older one would be of similar quality but half the price. And it should be said that stabilisation systems are less effective close up - there is a practical scientific reason for this, but I cannot recall accurately why.

Thanks for the advice, Tim - I'm still undecided which route I'll take on this one. I may just start with buying some extension tubes and see how I like the result.
