An other top class shot Wally ... unbelievable how close you get to osprey ... maybe they think you're one of them?

Marco, interesting comment. A number of people have said that. The Willamette Valley in Oregon is mostly large fields of agricultural farm lands, rivers, and small lakes or ponds. Most of the Osprey nests are built on man made poles with platforms in and around the fields close to rivers, lakes or ponds. Consequently the nests are usually not more that 20 to 25 from the ground. This allows good access for close up still shots and in flight shots around the nests with a 400mm lens. We do have some tree nests but they are usually considerably higher, 75 to 125 ft. off the ground. Because the nests are located in farm lands, the birds are used to having people working and walking around the nests on a regular basis. Hope that helps provide some insight to our geographic location. Wally
